TheCable Newspaper, in commemoration of its 10th anniversary hosted a crucial webinar on, ‘addressing The Escalating Costs of Medicines’.
The virtual event aimed to ignite a comprehensive dialogue on the alarming rise in the prices of essential medicines and medical consumables across Nigeria.

The webinar served as a call to action, bringing together key stakeholders to identify practical solutions that can alleviate the dire situation and ensure equitable access to essential healthcare.

“With the prices of healthcare necessities steadily surging, they are becoming increasingly unaffordable for the vast majority of Nigerians, posing a severe threat to public health and well-being,” the management of TheCable said in a statement.

“And with only 7% of the population having access to quality health insurance, and over 70% relying on out-of-pocket expenditures, the situation has reached a critical point, exacerbating the country’s already dismal health indices.”

Moderated by Dr Henry Ewunonu, a renowned physician and health advocate, the webinar examined the underlying causes of prohibitive drug prices, such as high energy costs, forex encumbrances, multiple taxation, and bureaucratic challenges.
