Gbagyi youths and the host community of Bingham University in Karu local government area of Nasarawa State have asked the institution to prioritise the hiring of qualified individuals from their community for both academic and non-academic positions.

Their spokesperson, Gaza Mark Auta, made the call when he addressed a press conference in Abuja yesterday.

The youths also demanded equitable job opportunities for members of the host community saying, “Bingham University must prioritise hiring qualified individuals from our community for both academic and non-academic positions.”

Aura said this would not only contribute to the socio-economic development of the community, but also ensure diversity and representation within the university workforce.

He explained that the current lack of representation of host community members in the managerial positions within the university administration is unacceptable.

“We demand that qualified individuals from our community be appointed to key managerial roles, including department heads, deans, and other administrative positions.

“This will ensure that our voices are heard and our interests are represented in decision-making processes.

“The host community has a wealth of talent and resources that are often overlooked when awarding contracts for various projects and services at Bingham University.

“We demand that indigenous companies from our community be given fair consideration and equal opportunity to compete for contracts related to construction, maintenance, and other services required by the university.

“We demand that a qualified member of the host community be appointed as the next Registrar. This will not only ensure representation but also bring a deeper understanding of the needs and aspirations of our community to the university’s administrative leadership,” he added.
