Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart in Nasarawa State, have appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule to implement the N30,000 national minimum wage to workers on grade level seven and above.

The two bodies also called on the governor to effect outstanding promotion of civil servants in the state.

The chairman of NLC and TUC in the state, Comrade Ayuba Oko and Mohammed Doma, respectively, made the call in their address marking the 2024 May Day celebration in Lafia.

The duo urged the governor to impress on the committee on the N30,000 minimum wage headed by the deputy governor, Emmanuel Akabe to submit its report to enable him (Governor Sule) to implement the same.

While commending the governor for effecting the promotion of civil servants which had stagnated for many years, they urged him to release that of 2018 to 2023 as well as 2024 accordingly.

The NLC chairman specifically urged the governor to direct the release of funds for those whose promotions were earlier approved.

He equally appealed to the state government to hasten the implementation of the wage award for workers in the state which was earlier granted by the federal government.

He commended the state government for putting measures in place to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal in the state.

He said the payment of N10,000.00 to each civil servant in the state and N5,000.00 each to pensioners as palliative as well as distribution of food items to vulnerable persons were steps in the right direction.

He, however, said labour unions need buses to address the transport challenges the workers are facing as a result of the increase in transport fares.
