Gombe State Commissioner for Water Resources, Mohammed Saidu Fawu has assured that the cut in water supply causing hardship on residents would be over by Saturday.

LEADERSHIP reports that there has been acute water shortage in the state causing residents to buy from vendors at high costs in the past weeks and this has inflicted further hardship on the less privileged who reportedly fetch water from unclean sources.

Some philanthropists however intervened by supplying trucks of water to selected areas where large number of people have to queue and struggle to get their shares of the donated water.

However, speaking with LEADERSHIP via phone on Friday, the Commissioner said the current water problem was due to the falling of 31 electric poles connecting Dadin Kowa Dam, which supplies water to the state, with the national grid.

According to him, government was on top of the situation and had fixed the collapsed poles, adding that water supply would be restored before the end of Saturday.

He added that water pipes from the dam to the state capital are 50 kilometres long and are required to be filled up to transport water to the state while appealing to residents for patience.
