The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has said it would present relief materials and money to families of all those affected by the recent tanker fire accident, which claimed lives and property worth billions of naira, in Eleme local government area of Rivers State.

Rivers State representative in the NDDC governing board, Chief Tony Okocha, who announced this yesterday while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, also commiserated with families of those affected by the unfortunate incident.

Okocha stated that the NDDC board believes that the relief materials would somehow cushion the effect of the losses incurred by the families of the victims due to the accident.

He said the chairman of the board, Barrister Chiedu Ebie, has given a directive that the commission must visit the scene of the accident as well as the families of the victims so as to identify with them.

The Rivers State representative said, “Today’s session is in show of solidarity with Nigerians who lost their lives and property because of the tanker fire that took place in Eleme. Eleme is a local government area in Rivers State, housing multinational and national companies. We can very well describe Eleme as an economic hub of Nigeria.”

Okocha prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the incident and assured that the NDDC would provide necessary assistance to ameliorate the effects of the incident on the victims.

He cautioned truck drivers plying that route to always drive with caution, considering the nature of the road, which is “undergoing an expeditious construction work.”

The NDDC representative commended President Bola Tinubu and the minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, for the quality of the job being done on the East-West Road.
