Alleged N250m Fraud: Adamawa ADC Disciplinary Committee Suspends Chairman Dasin

The crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has deepened following the suspension of the party’s State Chairman, Honourable Ibrahim Dasin, over alleged financial mismanagement and failure to account for more than N250 million belonging to the party.

The suspension was announced by the party’s disciplinary committee, led by Mark Dauda, who alleged that Dasin repeatedly failed to appear before the committee to explain how the funds were spent.

Addressing journalists, Dauda said several invitations had been sent to the suspended chairman to appear before the committee and defend himself, but that he allegedly refused to honour them.

“Several invitations were sent to him to come and defend himself. He refused to appear before the committee and before the constituted authority,” Dauda said.

Following the suspension, the party said Alhaji Sa’idu Naira had been ratified by the State Congress as the Acting State Chairman of the ADC in Adamawa State.

Naira, while speaking on the development, accused the Dasin-led administration of plunging the party into what he described as “disarray and unresolved crisis” due to alleged lack of cohesion and inclusiveness.

He also alleged that several prominent members had left the party during Dasin’s tenure, including former Governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, popularly known as Binani, and Senator Ishaku Abbo.

“It was during his tenure that we lost major leaders like Senator Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (Binani), and Senator Ishaku Abbo (SIA). They left because of unpatriotic ego and disregard for party unity,” Naira alleged.

The acting chairman further alleged that Dasin received more than N250 million, largely from the party’s former governorship candidate, Engineer Suleiman Omar, Dokaji Adamawa, before he was replaced by Tukur Modibbo.

According to him, no satisfactory financial report had been provided to account for the funds.

Naira also claimed that the Adamawa State Police Command had invited Dasin to explain issues relating to the party’s finances, but alleged that he failed to honour the invitation.

“He was indignant and flared up whenever he was asked to give account of the money spent. There is nothing more than this that led to his suspension,” he said.

The acting chairman, however, said the new leadership was focused on rebuilding the party and restoring unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The party is gathering momentum again. We are receiving defectors. Over 7,000 groups and individuals have contacted us to join ADC in Adamawa,” Naira claimed.

On the dispute over the party’s governorship ticket between Suleiman Omar and Tukur Modibbo, Naira said the state leadership would remain neutral until the court determines the rightful candidate.

“The matter is in court. Whoever the court affirms as candidate, that is who we will work with. Our focus now is to work for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and all ADC candidates in 2027. I must say the party is bigger than anyone,” he said.

Efforts to reach Dasin for his reaction to the allegations and suspension proved abortive, as calls to his telephone line were not answered at the time of filing this report.
