The Kano State government has dismissed rumours that over 40 persons recently died in one day as a result of an outbreak of a strange disease at Gundutse in Kura local government area of the state.

The commissioner for health, Dr Abubakar Labaran, stated this in an address on the occasion of the 2024 Africa Vaccination Week (AVW) at Kura local government.

Reports had gone viral in the media that a strange ailment had claimed 40 lives in one day at Gudutse.

The commissioner described the rumour as unfounded but his ministry discovered that only six deaths were recorded during the said period and that there was only an outbreak of high malaria.

He cautioned against spreading such rumours due to the dangers involved.

The commissioner announced that the state government had since upgraded its record taking on deaths where they are not only registered in the hospitals but registered at the cemetery for effective record keeping.

He warned health and traditional workers in the state against giving fake information to the media, adding that all information regarding outbreaks should come from the state governor or commissioner for health.
