Residents of Miango community have sent out an SoS to concerned authorities as over 200 houses were destroyed by a heavy rainstorm on Monday afternoon in Miango, Bassa local government area of Plateau State.

LEADERSHIP learnt that the rainstorm, which blew off rooftop of houses, started at about 12noon. Those affected included private residences, clinics, schools, and shops. The severity of the storm uproteed trees and left many people stranded.

According to a statement signed by the publicity secretary, Miango Youth Development Association (MYDA), Nuhu Bitrus Nga, the affected persons were counting their losses of valuable items which included documents, goods like cement, knitting machines, household products, and many more.

LEADERSHIP further observed that some of the affected persons have found refuge in their neighbours’ houses. The damages caused by the rainstorm further put the Miango people, who have over the years suffered violent attacks and displacements, in a more precarious situation.

The statement further said the victims were in dire need of assistance, especially for a farming populace like the Miango community .

MYDA, therefore, called on the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Bassa local government area council, non-governmental organisation (NGOs) and other well-meaning individuals to, as a matter of urgency, come to the aid of the affected community as the rainy season intensifies.
