The 8 Show, a new Netflix produced Korean limited series, with similar concept to the streaming platform’s successful series Squid Games, is set to release May 17.

Eight individuals with no outstanding skills or knowledge, participate in a gameshow where as time passes indefinitely, their monies pile up indefinitely. The question, however is, can they survive the dangerous game, escape the eight-story building they are trapped in, to enjoy the reward?

The thriller series based on Bae Jin-Soo’s web comic is directed by Han Jae-Rim, whose movie directory repertoire include The King (2017), The Show Must Go On (2007) and Rules of Dating (2005), and won Best Screenplay for The King, and the Best Film and Best Director for The Face Reader, all at the Daejong Film Awards 2017 and 2013.

It features actors Ryu Jun-Yeol (3rd Floor), Chun Woo-Hee (8th Floor), Park Jeong-Min (7th Floor), Lee Yul-Eum (4th Floor), Park Hae-Joon (6th Floor), Lee Joo-Young (2nd Floor), Moon Jeong-Hee (5th Floor) and Bae Sung-Woo (1st Floor).

While non-Korean netizens emphasize the series concept to that of Squid Games, they are excited for the series.

“Koreans sure know how to make bangers,” said @bankaimonarch3622.

“This could be that surprise show of the year. I love that while the other streaming services try some foreign shows and movies out, Netflix will go all, even if that means pushing down the shows made here a little,” @siavm.

“The 8 Show looks like an infinite symbol. Maybe that’s a clue on what will happen in the show. Maybe these players have to be in this show and play the game for eternity,” @millionsofmarks2266.

“This reminds me of a Bob Marley quote: Money is numbers, and numbers never end. If it takes money to be happy, your search for happiness will never end,” said @AsianShadowrunner.
