PLSG To Rehabilitate Yelwa, Dorowa Water Treatment Plants

Rehabilitation work has started on the Dorowa, Yelwa-Bukuru water treatment plants abandoned for decades by past administrations in Plateau State.

The Jos Water Services Corporation being an agency responsible for the provision of water to urban communities and SURWASH owns the plant.

The rehabilitation is expected to boost and ensure steady water supply to residents in Gyel, Bukuru low-cost, Whitt Logwom, Kwata, Zawan and Kurgiya in Jos South local government area.
Our correspondent gathered that over 47,000 people are expected to benefit from the project after its completion and it would pump out 5,000 cubic litres of water daily.

Speaking while conducting representatives of the World Bank, Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Energy, SURWASH state implementing units from Katsina and Kaduna on an inspection tour, the representative of the contractor handling the project, Impresit Bakolori Plc-BNF, Engr. Friday Audu, assured the team of quality work and timely completion of the project.

According to him, the company has been existing since 1970 and specialises in construction of dams and rehabilitation of water treatment plants.

He added that the project when completed would address the water needs of people of the area.
Engr. Audu further advised states with perennial water shortage to build new dams and try their reticulation while urging the people of the state not to waste water and should endeavor to pay their water bills when due.

He commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for fulfilling government’s counterpart funding obligations and making sure water gets to every part of the state by rehabilitating many treatment plants.
