The Malikiya College of Health and Social Sciences in Bauchi State said that plans are underway to introduce new courses to the college such as Disease Control, Epidemiology and Optometry.
The registrar of the college, Tafida Mohammed unveiled a plan for the new courses during a two-day assessment exercise which ended yesterday by officials of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Kaduna, saying they are optimistic of accreditation of the courses.

Alh Mohammed gave the number of courses currently run by the college to include Community Health, Health Information, Environmental Health, Pharmacy and Dental Health, for which over 2,000 graduated since the establishment of the college in 2016.

“All our college departments are grateful for the accreditation teams that allocated them to inspect the books, inputs and outputs, equipment, and the courses so that we could achieve the desired goals”, Tafida said.

He also revealed that the chairman of the college, Aminu Mohammed initially planned to float a College of Nursing and Midwifery, but circumstances made him turn to this format, “but I am sure, with time, he would move further to that objective.”

The registrar added that, “It is as a result of the lack of manpower in the health sector that the Bauchi State government invited the facilitators and the first person to accept the clarion call was Hon Aminu Mohammed.”

Alh Mohammed further revealed that the college which has over the years graduated over 2,000, now has over 2,000 students, stressing that “we have the capacity to add more courses, having 66 permanent and 170 part-time staff, some doctors, experienced degree holders and other professionals.”
