Vandals have gone on a rampage in the Kaduna metropolis as they destroyed solar streetlights fixed by the state government to keep the streets bright at night.

To end the menace, the Kaduna Roads Management Agency (KADRA) has urged the residents for support and warned the vandals to desist from the act or face the weight of the law when caught.

Investigation by LEADERSHIP showed that the vandals have either destroyed or stolen solar streetlights and their accessories in major Kaduna city streets such as Kabala West, Kakuri, Sabon Tasha among other areas leaving residents of the affected streets in darkness.

The state government had fixed solar street lights on the major roads and streets in the state capital to light up the areas, especially at night.

However, the activities of vandals have increased, causing economic sabotage.

To stem the situation, the managing director of Kaduna Roads Management Agency (KADRA), Dr Abdullahi Baba Ahmed, told the residents that modalities were in place to ensure that anyone caught vandalising streetlights would be arrested and punished according to the laws of the land.

Ahmed said, “People of Kaduna State, vandalism of streetlights and traffic lights affect us directly and not the government as this equipment is being put in place to help make life easy for us.

“Please note that government properties are our properties; therefore, it is our responsibility to safeguard them.”
