Ogun State government on yesterday directed accountants in all its Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to evolve genuine innovative ideas through which the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) can be scaled up to enable it meet up with its plethora of financial obligations.

The commissioner for Finance, Dapo Okubadejo gave the directive while speaking with all Directors of Finance and Accounts (DFAs) from all the various MDAs during a meeting held in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Okubadejo, who is also the Chief Economic Adviser to the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, said the current global and national economic situation has made it expedient for the state to devise ways of shoring up its revenue in order to be able to deliver on its electioneering promises of good governance.

While seeking the cooperation of the accountants at ensuring that the government generates enough funds to meet its obligations to the people, the commissioner explained that, “IGR has become a major factor in the performance of sub-nationals”.
Prior to the meeting, LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that Okubadejo had two months ago and at different fora, met with divisional heads and operations managers of banks, as well as other financial institutions in the state, as well as chairmen and representatives of all the 20 LGAs in the state where he charged them on the need to block leakages and ensure efficient service delivery in their respective agencies to enable government to continually discharge its responsibilities.
The commissioner, while addressing the gathering assured the accountants that the state government would continue to expose them to training and retraining, seminars and workshops, in order for them to be attuned to modern trends in their profession.
