The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has announced that Nigeria will host the 10th edition of the Network of African Data Protection Authorities’ (NADPA-RADPA) Conference and Annual General Meeting.
According to a statement issued by the commission, this decision was reached during the 9th NADPA AGM in Nairobi, Kenya, where Nigeria, led by the NDPC director-general, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, was chosen to host for this prestigious event.
The NADPA-RAPDP was established in Ouagadougou in September 2016 and it comprises 23 data protection authorities across Africa. Its core aim is to facilitate exchanges and collaboration among members while amplifying Africa’s voice in global partnerships. Nigeria, a member since 2022, actively participated in the recent AGM, even leading the regulatory harmonization working group.
A statement by head of the bureau’s media unit, Itunu Dosekun, said “The 9th NADPA-RADPA Conference in Nairobi saw a significant turnout, with over 1,500 attendees, including notable entities like Google, Amazon Web Services, EY, Microsoft, and partners like the EU, GIZ and Digital Transformation Centre.
“The 2025 edition will provide a crucial platform for African Data Protection Authorities to convene, collaborate and discuss emerging trends, challenges, and best practices in data protection and privacy. This event is expected to boost Nigeria’s economy through Foreign Direct Investments and promote tourism by showcasing the country’s offerings to delegates.
“Hosting this esteemed event will enhance Nigeria’s status as an innovation and research hub, attracting investments and talent while showcasing its industries globally. The conference will also focus on capacity building in digital technologies, empowering individuals and organizations for success in the digital economy.”
The statement added that the conference signifies Nigeria’s commitment to advancing data protection principles and fostering international cooperation. Collaborating with various stakeholders, NDPC is ready to co-host this event, promising growth, collaboration and progress in data protection and beyond.
