Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, has warned 81 newly inducted medical graduates to adhere strictly to the Hippocratic oath (HO) by shunning unethical practices that may truncate years of their academic training in the institution.

Ndaeyo gave the warning yesterday during the 22nd Physicians’ oath – taking (Sponsio Academica) held at the 1,000 – capacity hall at the Nwaniba, Uyo main campus of the institution on Tuesday.

“Today marks a significant milestone in the lives of the medical graduands as they transition from diligent students to entrusted custodians of healthcare professionals who are well equipped to meet the evolving challenges in the medical field.

“The business of this profession is to save lives, hence only the best can be entrusted with this task. As you take this solemn oath today, I exhort you to take every part of the oath you swore seriously, commit them into your heart and make the same your guiding principles throughout your years of practice.

“Always act in the best interest of your patients by prioritising their well-beings above everything else, remember you are not just treating the diseases, but also caring for a person who may be in their most vulnerable state.”
