Ohaneje said there are about 27,000 pensioners in the state, made up of civil servants, local government staff, teachers and permanent secretaries.

He submitted that if the government claimed that they have paid over 3,000 pensioners within the bracket of N2 million to God be the glory.

Ohaneje revealed that 3,000 pensioners said to have been paid represents a paltry list when compared to over 27,000 pensioners in the state.

He said, “We record that few of them have been paid. Their claim that they have paid 3,000 pensioners is neither here nor there.”

He argued that if the government has decided to pay the money, it should be holistic as everybody needs money.

“It should not be a selective payment. By the report we are getting, it is selective payment.

There are a few persons who were reported to have received what looks like 10 percent of their gratuities, such as pensioners who had N2.9 million, they were paid N290,000.”

Uzodimma had submitted that they have commenced payment of gratuities to the retirees in the state.

The governor had said he was considering the payment of the gratuities to the retirees from Tuesday, April 30, 2024 to coincide with this year’s Workers Day on May 1, 2024.
