Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has congratulated Mrs Nwando Chukwurah on her emergence as the first female chairman of the Chartered Institute of Directors (IoD) Abuja Zone.

Kennedy-Ohanenye congratulated Chukwurah in her welcome address at the 10th investiture and members’ event of the IoD EXCO in Abuja yesterday.

Represented by her special assistant on special duties, Dr Fatima Abdul, the minister said, “I would like to congratulate my dear sister, Mrs Nwando Chukwurah, and the incoming EXCO.”

“I want to leave you with a call to action. Let us all be champions for women’s equality. Let us continue to challenge the status quo and work together to build a fairer, more just society for all.

“As minister of women affairs, I am committed to working alongside organisations like yours. Together, we can create a future where all women and girls in Nigeria have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

“I am excited to see what the next decade holds for the IoD. May you continue to be a beacon of empowerment and a driving force for positive change.

That’s why organisations like the Institute of Directors are so crucial. You have provided a platform for women to attain leadership positions. You also offer mentorship and training opportunities, and you advocate for policies that promote gender equality,” she said.

In her acceptance speech, Chukwurah said, “Our focus areas will be growth, innovation, and engagement. We plan to achieve this by reactivating normal relationships, fostering engagement, creating opportunities for directors and other professionals to interrogate policies, and advancing advocacy.

“We strongly believe that supporting our members and businesses will enable us to effectively create long-term value for the institute.”
