A group educating women on maternal health in Taraba State, “Mama2Mama” has pleaded with the state government to support its activities to reduce maternal mortality cases and improve child immunisation.
The group works to increase social support for all mothers as they make the transition into parenthood by promoting healthy parenting practices to create healthier and more sustainable communities.
Its state assistant health educator for advocacy and health promotion, Christiane Habila, spoke at an advocacy visit to Lau local government area of the state.

Habila called on the state government to assist the women.

She said, “We are pleading with our governor Dr. Agbu Kefas to assist the women (Mama2Mama) with monthly stipends to assist them in their daily activities, the government should also assist the women with Tricycle Ambulance so that they can use and convey pregnant women to nearby hospitals during labour.”

LEADERSHIP Friday gathered that the group has some 5,400 volunteers across the 16 local government areas of the state.

“We have been championing positive change in health, we are keeping children alive by discouraging negative behaviours such as delivery at home, and non-attendance of antenatal care, though we get little funds as support from Gavi through UNICEF, we will do better if the state government assist,” Rahila Joshua, from Lau told journalists.
