Police in Bayelsa State have confirmed the abduction of a former commissioner, Engr. Mike Ogiasa, by gunmen in his home town, Otuabadi in Ogbia local government area of the state.
Engr. Ogiasa is a relative of former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, a former state commissioner for special duties (federal project) and special adviser on power development during the administration of Seriake Dickson. He was also the convener of the socio-political group known as Voice of the South-South and has been on the frontline supporting the purported move to draft Dr. Goodluck Jonathan into the 2023 presidential race.
It was gathered that Engr. Ogiasa was abducted by gunmen on Wednesday. According to sources, the gunmen arrived his place after he returned home from a meeting.
The sources said Ogiasa had planned to return to Yenagoa at the end of the meeting, but some persons prevailed on him to wait till next morning. He was indoors when the gunmen arrived and abducted him. The family has not been contacted for any ransom.
Spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command, SP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the abduction saying the police were investigating the incident.
