NDDC Joins Fight Against Malaria In Niger Delta

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has restated its commitment to the eradication of malaria across the Niger Delta region.

NDDC managing director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, disclosed this yesterday during a medical outreach to commemorate the 2024 World Malaria Day at Umuaka-Obehi community in Ukwa-West local government area of Abia State.

Ogbuku, who was represented by the head of Education, Health and Social Services, Okechukwu Obia stated that the sensitisation programme was in line with the mandate of the commission across the nine Niger Delta states.

He said that the sensitisation programme was to create awareness in the rural communities on the measures put in place to prevent malaria.

The NDDC boss said, “This programme is in line with the mandate of the commission on rural community projects to people who may not have access to good hospital in the rural communities.”

In his speech, director of Clinic, Rivers State University, Faculty of Humanity, Dr Ordu Nkesi stated that the Ogbuku-led NDDC was committed to ensuring that proper sensitisation programme on malaria would be carried out in the Niger Delta region.

Ordu said that the commission would ensure that free malaria testing, free medication and free mosquito nets be given to people in the region.

Some of beneficiaries who spoke with newsmen including Chief Chinasa Nwanya and Blessing Onyekwere expressed gratitude to the NDDC for reaching out to them.

Chinasa said, “We are very happy about the programme and we are commending the NDDC for this gesture while Onyekwere added, “I benefitted so much from this programme. They gave me drugs and it is coming at the time I needed it the most.”
