The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), on Tuesday, said the nation’s airspace remained open to flight operations despite the strike action embarked upon by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), over new national minimum wage.

LEADERSHIP reports that aviation unions had complied with the directive of the organised labour to shut down activities across the nation’s airports, thereby affecting flight operations across the country on Monday.

However, NAMA director, public affairs and consumer protection, Abdulahi Musa, in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP, said the strike action didn’t affect its operations.

He said, “NAMA, hereby assures the general public and airline operators that the ongoing strike by NLC has not in any way affected the operations of the agency as contingency arrangements have been put in place for the processing of flight operations in the five major airports in Nigeria which include Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Enugu.

“NAMA will continue to provide its services to airline operators in spite of the ongoing strike action, in keeping with the agency’s mandate to provide uninterrupted, safe, efficient, and economic air navigation services in the country.”
