AMAC Poll: ‘Results Tendered At Tribunal Doctored’

A pro-democracy and civil society group, Election Monitoring Watch (EMW) has alleged that the results for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) polls tendered at the election petitions tribunal were altered.

The group therefore charged the Independent national Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate some of its staff members who colluded with some security agencies to carry out ‘‘this brazen illegality and appropriate disciplinary measure taken against all those found culpable.’’

Its secretary-general Ahmed Giri Salisu stated this when he reacted to the recent tribunal judgement declaring the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner.
Salisu claimed that there was enough proof available to the public, which revealed the complicity of some personnel in the controversy that the poll generated.
“Our findings suggest that the results tendered in the tribunal were different from the ones declared by INEC in its original sheets containing the outcome of the poll. INEC results clearly showed that Christopher Zakka Maikalangu of PDP won the AMAC chairmanship poll.
“Various elections monitoring observers including civil society, EU and AU certified the conduct of the election free and fair,” he said and expressed confidence in the ability of the judiciary to deliver justice on the matter.”
