10-year-old Beats 16 Contestants To Win Spelling Bee Competition

Ten-year old pupil of Science Primary School, Kuje, a suburb in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nainat Aliyu-Aynil has emerged winner of the spelling bee competition organised by a non – governmental organisation, Yspot.

Nainat, who is in grade five, beat 16 contestants to emerge as the winner.

Meanwhile, nine year old Peculiar Victor of Model Primary School Kuje was the 1st runner- up while 15 years old Hafast Umar of LEA primary school Dafara, was the 2nd runner – up.

The three pupils were awarded scholarships for the remaining term(s) in primary school; medals and certificates.

For the art creativity competition, 12 year old Praise Bala of LEA  primary school Kayarda, Kuje, emerged winner.

Nafiu Ibrahim, 13 year old in grade six from LEA primary school Kiyi, Kuje emerged first runner-up while David Daniel, nine year old in grade six from Science Primary School, Kuje was the second runner – up in the competition.

Eight contestants participated in the art creativity competition.

The Chief Executive Officer, Yspot, Temitope Olukomogbon said the spelling bee competition was organised to positively impact the next generation by enhancing their literacy and vocabulary skills, while also providing them with platforms that build their confidence and foster a learning culture among youngsters.

She said: “The spelling bee competition was put together to positively impact the next generation by enhancing their literacy and vocabulary skills, while also providing them with platforms that build their confidence and foster a learning culture among youngsters.

“We aim to inspire young minds to soar, and Smart Minds has been our avenue to achieve this goal.”

 

Speaking about the competition, she said: “Yes, it is an annual event which began in the year 2015. It has both the online and onsite components. The onsite competition is focused on Public Primary Schools in the Abuja Municipal Areas. This is organised in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Board, and  the Yspot Team.

 

“However, the online spelling bee competition is focused on children in grade 4-6 ages 8-10, across Africa. The next edition is scheduled to take place on the 3rd of August 2024. Registration is currently ongoing. To register, visit : yspotinternational.com.”
