ENSURE YOUR HOME IS GROUNDED

A grounded home is the one where metallic parts of electrical appliances are connected to an earth plate underground. When a home is grounded, it reduced the chances of electric shocks and electrocution.

SWITCH OFF THE GADGETS DURING POWER FLUCTUATIONS

Abrupt power cuts and cable faults are common problems during the rainy season. Constant power fluctuations can damage your electronic items. Hence it is advisable to switch them off if you notice fluctuation in power.

STAY AWAY FROM WATER

Avoid swimming, boating, or fishing during a thunderstorm as water is a good conductor of electricity.

STAY INDOORS DURING THUNDERSTORMS

Avoid going outside when there is lightning and thunder. Lightning can cause power surges and electrocution if it strikes power lines or electrical equipment.

STAY AWAY FROM ELECTRICAL POLES

Never stand or park your car near electrical poles, especially when it is raining or when there is standing water around the pole. Heavy rain or wind can cause power lines to fall.

USE PROTECTIVE GEAR

Wear rubber-soled shoes and avoid metal objects when outdoors during heavy rainfall to minimise the risk of electrical accidents.

Stay Off Elevated Areas

If outside when raining, avoid hills, mountain tops, and open fields where you are the tallest object. Lightning tends to strike the highest point in an area. When you are on a hill, mountain top, or in an open field, you become the tallest object in the vicinity, making you a prime target for lightning.
