President Bola Tinubu led dignitaries and crowds of people gathered at Eagles Square to mark the 2024 Democracy Day.

He inspected a military parade featuring troops from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Police after arriving at about 10:00am.

The President had earlier in the day addressed Nigerians through a nationwide broadcast to mark the occasion.

The 12 June Democracy Day public holiday commemorates the end of military rule in 1999.

Despite the federal holiday, many people turned out wearing colourful outfits to watch the parade and ceremonial events.

Tinubu, accompanied by his wife Oluremi, was welcomed by Vice-President Kashim Shettima and other government officials.

After the national anthem, the president was driven in an open-top vehicle aroung the Eagle Square, waving to spectators.

Among other dignitaries present were the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; cabinet ministers, and members of the Diplomatic Corps, among others.
