Court Sentences 3 To Death For Armed Robbery In Ekiti

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced three persons to death by hanging for the offences of armed robbery and conspiracy.

The men convicted by the court presided over by Justice John Adeyeye are: Akingbade David, Michael Mayowa and Ibrahim Jimoh Mukaila.

The convicts committed the offences on the March 1, 2019 at NTA Road in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

The convicts robbed one Gbenga Ajayi of his Toyota Corolla car on the said day at gun point.

They were later arrested and charged to court with the offences bordering on Conspiracy and Armed Robbery which are contrary to Section 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap.R11, Vol.14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

An Assistant Chief Legal Officer, O. F. Ajumobi who prosecuted the case for Ekiti State called two witnesses and tendered eleven exhibits in support of the case.

The trio of Akin Abon, lyanu Olumuagun and Adeyinka Opaleke, who represented the convicts gave evidence in their defence and called no additional witnesses.

Delivering his judgment, Justice Adeyeye held that the prosecution proved all the ingredients of the offences against the defendants beyond reasonable doubt.

He consequently convicted all the defendants and sentenced them to death by hanging for both offences.
