Governor Bala Mohammad of Bauchi State has approved N42 million to the Bauchi State contingent that would represent the country at the Nigeria – Malaysia Bilateral School Debate Championship taking place from 15th to 21 July, 2024 in Malaysia.

The Bauchi State contingent qualified to represent Nigeria by defeating Ogun State at the final stage held in Abuja.

A statement by Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board stated that Governor Mohammed also granted the five winners of the championship a free education scholarship up to University level.

Statement signed by SUBEB’s Public Relations Officer, Mallam Muhammad Abdullahi and made available to journalists in Bauchi on Friday, expressed the state government’s commitment towards rewarding performing students that make the state proud.

The governor therefore urged the Nigeria contingent to ensure they bring success to the country.

He also appealed to the Federal Government to be sponsoring students that qualified at the national level in inter basic school debate championship, not states, saying they are representing the country as a whole.

The governor further commended the organiser, President’s School Debate Nigeria.

LEADERSHIP reports that the President’s School Debate Nigeria in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education under the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu annually organise inter basic school debate championship from states, national and international levels.

The Bauchi State contingent will represent the country with five debaters, one coach, one judge, one observer and one matron, while SUBEB Executive Chairman, Adamu Mohammed Duguri will lead the team.
