The Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has applauded the Nigerian Senate over the passage of the N1.9trillion budget of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for the 2024 fiscal year.

This is as the group also applauded Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for the appointment of caretaker committees for the 23 local government areas in the state.

MOSIEND, in a statement by its National President, Dr. Kennedy West, said the speedy consideration and passage of the 2024 NDDC budget showed that the federal lawmakers have the interest of the people of the Niger Delta region at heart.

West stated that with the passage of the 2024 Budget christened ‘Budget of Renewed Hope’, the NDDC will see to the completion of ongoing projects, and initiate more projects and programmes that will transform the region and better the lives of its people.

He commended the tireless efforts of the Commission’s Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, and his management team for committing to addressing the teething developmental issues of the Niger Delta and prayed that the new budget which the communities consider timely will birth a new dawn in the region.

West said: “MOSIEND is pleased with the achievements of Dr. Ogbuku especially in the areas of infrastructure, human capital development and the continuous stakeholders engagement where the people of the region now make input to issues bordering on the development of their communities.

“We urge state governors, national and state legislators and chairmen of local government councils to join the NDDC management as partners.

“With this passage, we expect a remarkable difference and lofty ideas that will stimulate development across the region and help in completing some of the well thought projects littered across the States which the NDDC is doing for the Niger Delta people.”

Meanwhile, MOSIEND has also applauded the youths of Rivers State for standing firm to defend democracy and allowing the will of the people to prevail.

MOSIEND, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt by its Eastern zonal acting chairman, Emmanuel Gibson, thanked the Governor Fubara for taking the bold steps by defending democracy in the state and ensuring that the third tier of government is being protected from abuse and manipulation.

The statement commended Rivers people for coming out in their numbers to ensure that the third tier of government, the local government areas, were protected from satanic forces and evil claws of political vampires who has cultivated the sit-tight mentality to power.
