Thousands of travelers faced delays and cancellations on Sunday at Manchester Airport after a power cut crippled operations at the major UK hub.

This was made known in a statement by the airport on their official X handle.

Terminals 1 and 2 were the most affected, with a spokesperson for the airport advising passengers flying from these terminals to “contact their airlines before coming to the airport as a number of flights are likely to be cancelled.”

Power has however been restored but the disruption is expected to continue throughout the day as the airport works to get back on track.

Passengers already at the airport can expect delays.

“We are working to get those passengers already at the airport onto flights as soon as possible,” the statement continued. “We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.”

Terminal 3 remained operational, though some delays were reported. Passengers with flights departing from this terminal were advised to “come to the airport as usual, although flights are subject to some delays,” according to the airport’s statement.

The power outage sparked frustration on social media, with many questioning the airport’s preparedness.

“Utter disgrace,” wrote one user. “The airport should have backup systems/generators for this sort of scenario. Expect the unexpected.”

Another user commented on the broader issues at the airport, stating, “In general, this airport is a shambles and needs major investment. I don’t see how a power cut causes a toilet blockage across T1. Management should resign.”
