Electoral Body Promises Fairness In Adamawa Polls

Chairman of the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSEIC) Mohammed Umar said it will give level field to all political parties ahead of the July 13 local government election in the state.
Umar disclosed this when he declared open the two-day training at the Nyako center in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

He said resident electoral officers and assistants have been trained ahead of the election.

The chairman said the commission is confident of conducting a free, fair and credible election, where a fair level ground will be given to all the political parties.
Umar revealed that the commission is working round the clock to ensure it delivers a credible election.
He disclosed that the electoral body has so far released the timetable and schedule of activities for the exercise, adding that it has met with electoral officers and other stakeholders concerned.

Konbowei, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was arraigned before the court on March 26, 2024 on three counts, in which he was among others, accused of forging an exemption certificate of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Justice Christopher Oba discharged Konbowei and struck out the charge shortly after the prosecuting lawyer, Reuben Egwuaba, applied to discontinue the prosecution.

Egwuaba told the court that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, who earlier issued him a fiat to prosecute the case, has withdrawn the fiat and directed him to withdraw the charge.

Egwuaba consequently applied to withdraw the charge, an application defence lawyer, Chris Uche, did not oppose.

Justice Oba, who elected to strike out the charge, however, rejected Uche’s application that the charge be dismissed.
