President of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), Dr Tommy Etim Okon, has expressed dismay over the increasing rate of civil servants abandoning their duty posts without following due process for overseas trips.
Okon, who stated this in a chat with LEADERSHIP, described such workers as fraudsters, saboteurs of civil service ethics, and unpatriotic Nigerians.
He called for the prosecution of such workers and those who aided them in the fraudulent activities.
According to him, the relevant agencies should not waste time arresting such workers who abandon their offices and travel outside the country at the detriment of offering their constitutional duties to Nigeria.
“We can’t condone or abate indolence in the service. Our association has high moral standards, and anything contrary is unacceptable.
“There is a condition of employment, and if any worker runs contrary to it, such a worker has to face the music. You can’t eat your cake and keep it,” he said.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday instructed the concerned authorities to demand a refund of salaries collected by workers who abandoned their jobs without resignation and travelled outside the country.
