Following reports of cholera outbreak in some states, the Jigawa State government has strengthened disease surveillance mechanism and public enlightenment to avoid the spread of the disease in the state.
The state’s commissioner for health, Dr Abdullahi Kainuwa, stated this while giving an update on the report of the disease in the state.
He said cholera outbreak is one of the perennial disease outbreaks the state had been experiencing over the years, particularly during the early rainy season.
According to him, as a result of concerted efforts by the state government, the National Primary Healthcare Agency and donor partners, the disease was put under control in the last two years, and currently, there is no report of any case of cholera in the state.
Dr Kainuwa added that to forestall any possible outbreak, they had put a disease surveillance mechanism on alert across 287 political wards in the 27 local government areas of the state.
