The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Adeniran Akinwale who gave the warning on Tuesday, declared that criminal elements are engaging such illegalities to perpetrate their evil acts.

Akinwale who warned residents of the state to desist from such acts, stressed that the Command will henceforth clampdown on drivers found culpable.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Sunday Abutu in a statement said, “The command has observed with dismay and great concern, the way and manner some vehicle owners and drivers alike engage in illegal use of official number plates, while some persons drive vehicles without plate numbers or wrong plate numbers, not forgetting those who use vehicles with artificial tints and unauthorised sirens/revolving lights.

“Many vehicle owners have formed the habit of covering their plate numbers for no just cause.

“Intelligence at our disposal also has it that criminal elements hide under these illegalities and impunity to perpetrate their own nefarious activities, not excluding innocent citizens, whose stolen vehicles could not be traced or recovered due to their negligence and refusal to have, and fix plate numbers.

“In view of this, CP, having assessed the security implications, warns against unauthorised and unwholesome usage of sirens/revolving lights, plate numbers, artificial tinted glasses and vehicles without or with wrong plate numbers as well as covering of plate numbers.

“The Command has taken the bull by the horn, to warn those involved to desist from such acts or be made to face the full wrath of the law without exemption”.

Police in Ekiti therefore implored the citizens and residents to be law abiding and quickly report any untoward incident or happening or suspicious faces observed within their vicinity to the nearest Police Station or Call 08062335577 for immediate action.
