Reps Condemn Borno Bombings, Want Better Intelligence Gathering

House of Representatives has condemned the suicide bombings in Gwoza, Borno State and urged security agencies to intensify their efforts in intelligence gathering and community engagement.

This followed the adoption of urgent motion moved by the member, representing Damboa/Gwoza/Chibok Federal Constituency, Hon. Ahmad Jaha at plenary on Tuesday.

Presenting the motion, the lawmaker informed of the bomb blasts that occurred on Saturday targeted at a wedding, a funeral and a hospital in coordinated attacks in Gwoza, Borno State.

He also noted that the heinous act of terror has resulted in the loss of not less than 30 innocent lives and caused immeasurable grief and suffering to the affected community with many battling with their lives at the various hospital.

Jaha said the despicable nature of these attacks underscores the ongoing threat posed by terrorism in the nation, stressing that lawmakers needed to stand united in condemning such acts of violence and reaffirm their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.

“Cognisance that there is a pressing need for our security agencies to enhance their intelligence gathering capabilities and engage more effectively with local communities to prevent the reoccurrence of such tragic incidents in the future. Intelligence gathering is a critical tool in the fight against terrorism, and it is essential that our security forces pave the necessary resources and support to gather timely and actionable intelligence to prevent attacks before they occur.

By fostering strong relationships with communities, our security agencies can gather valuable information, identify potential threats, and disrupt terrorist activities before they escalate into violence,” he added.
