Rotary Club of Abuja has proposed the sum of N100m to complete the construction of a mental health counselling centre facility in the Federal Medical Centre in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

President of Rotary Club of Abuja (The Grandfather), Rtn. Odunayo Bello, who made this known yesterday during his investiture as the 41st President of the Club described the project as their star project for the upcoming year.

Bello said that the project is a monumental endeavour, which they anticipate when completed, will significantly enhance the healthcare services available to their community.

“This year, we align our efforts with Rotary International’s theme for 2024/2025, “The Magic of Rotary.” This theme encapsulates the essence of our mission and guides us as we strive to make a meaningful impact.

“The Mental Health Block is a critical addition to the Federal Medical Center, and its completion will address the growing need for mental health services in our district and Nigeria at large.

“This project, with an ambitious budget of 100 million, represents not only a financial investment but also a profound commitment to the well-being of our community members,” he said.

He further said that in addition to the mental health block, they will continue to carry out projects across all areas of focus.

“These areas include promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, supporting education, saving mothers and children, protecting our environment, and growing local economies.

“Each of these focus areas is integral to our mission, and we will ensure that our efforts are well-coordinated and impactful,” he said.

Earlier, the Training Facilitator for the Club Rotary Year 2024-2025, Rotn. Joel Haruna explained that the site for the construction has already been allocated to them and about N20m has been expended on the project to bring it to where it is at the moment.

“Our hope and plan is to have this project completed this Rotary year. This project is going to be very important not just to the people living in the FCT, people can call in from all over Nigeria.

“There is going to be a call centre that would be set up to take calls. The hospital has partnered and agreed with us that they would provide all the medical services, the psychologists, and doctors that would sit in this facility,” he said.
