Customs Operation Whirl Wind Intercepts N55.7m Smuggled Items In Kebbi

The Operation Whirl Wind of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in charge of Kebbi and Sokoto states has intercepted Smuggled Items worth N55, 729,500 in June, this year.

National Coordinator of the Operation,  Hussain Kayende Ejibunu revealed this to Newsmen yesterday during a maiden press briefing held at Customs Area Command Birnin Kebbi in Kebbi State.

He said “Our team  mode of operation was  based on intelligence gathering but not Intercepting illegal contrabands on road blocks or check points.”

Ejibunu added that the Operation team were working under the Comptroller -general B. A. Adeniyi’s agenda is to fight against smuggling across Nigeria’s borders.

According to him,  the Intercepting of these Smuggled Items worth N55,  729,500 was done in June this year around Kebbi and Sokoto border areas.

The Intercepted Items include; 661 kegs of PMS and 15 drums of another PMS, 79,500 Litres of PMS which put with a DPV of N55,  729,500.

The national Coordinator of the Whirl Wind also disclosed that similar Intercepting by his team was conducted in Sokoto,  Adamawa and Abeokuta and Badagry in Ogun and Lagos states two weeks ago.

He advised Smugglers to re- think and better go into legitimate businesses or the Whirl Wind team will continue to go after them as economic saboteurs,  there is no place in Kebbi and Sokoto states and other States in the federation for their illegal activities.
