Christian Elders Get New Leadership In Borno, Support 3,000 IDPs

Borno State chapter of the Christian Elders’ Forum Of Northern States (NOSCEF) through the approval of the national executive members has elected new executive members to maintain the body in the state.

A statement by the state auditor/national women leader, Mrs Patum Hena yesterday in Maiduguri  said NOSCEF the new executive members were elected unopposed.

A former Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) chairman in the state, Rev. Dr. Titus Abana Pona,  emerged chairman while Rev. Enoch Joshua was elected vice chairman.

Dr Ebenezer Felix is the new state secretary while Bro. Amos Wasinda emerged the assistant secretary with Pastor Yoga Wadu Chiroma as treasurer.

Others are; Mrs Anna Darma as financial secretary, Mrs Hauwa Bata as publicity secretary,  Mrs Anna Maiva as welfare officer and Barrister Hassan Dlakwa as the forum’s legal adviser.

The positions of internal auditor,  security officer and three ex- officio members was reserved pending their affirmation.

Meanwhile, the secretary/national treasurer of the forum,  Sir, Elder Joseph Tumba (JP) said the forum had been able to among other things provide formal and non-formal education to over 3,000 internally displaced persons children, some of whom have been absorbed into the formal system of education.

“From 2021 to date, NOSCEF has carried out programmes that greatly touched the lives of the people of Borno State. We served as sub- guarantees through partnerships with Education Crisis Response ( ECR ) and International Rescue Committee ( IRC ) in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

“Through these two funding organisations, we were able to deploy our expertise in the areas of education and social welfare services to provide formal and non-formal education to over 3000 IDP children.  Some of these children have been absorbed in the formal system of education,” Elder Tumba said.
