Abia State government has made Treasury Single Account (TSA) clearance a prerequisite for release of funds to the ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), and other government-owned institutions.

The state accountant general, Njum Onyemenam, stated this at a workshop organised by her office and the board of internal revenue for the heads of accounts personnel of the MDAs and institutions in Umuahia, the state capital.

Tagged: “Understanding and Implementation Of Treasury Single Account: A Consolidated Revenue Collecting System” the workshop was for the system which the government launched in the state last July.
The accountant-general, therefore, urged them to key into the system immediately to enable them to have unhindered access to funding their expenditures.

Onyemenam also reminded them that the state administration is committed to ensuring accountability and transparency in governance in line with its campaign pledges.

In a remark, Elechi Chianakwalam, the permanent secretary of the state’s ministry of finance, assured of the ministry’s cooperation and support for the successful implementation of the system.
Contributing also, the chairman of the board, Udechukwu Ogbonna, informed them that from now on, payments into the government’s coffers must be backed by a teller.

He expressed delight that introducing the system would end the era of paying government revenue into private or ministry accounts, which he said was often associated with issues.
A resource person, Alozie Emmanuel, emphasised the importance of residents of the state registering themselves for the state’s Social Identification Number for easy transactions and security.
