The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has promoted four (4) of its senior officers on the rank of Group Captains to Air Commodore even as the promoted officers commenced their retirement from service.

A statement by NAF Spokesman, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, said the officers who were lauded for their dedication and loyalty to Service, have commenced retirement forthwith following their decoration with their new ranks.

“The promotion of these officers, conducted outside the typical promotion timeline, showcased the profound contributions they have made to both the NAF and the nation,” he said.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar commended the officers, for their extraordinary dedication and the significant impact they have had on the NAF.

The officers honoured include Air Commodore John Azubuike Opara, two NAF Chaplains and Imam, Air Commodores Okechukwu Godson Okoye, David Ajar Ahmadu, and Tahir Bin-Isah.

Air Cdre Opara was celebrated for his outstanding performance as an astute administration officer.

The CAS said Air Commodore Opara, despite earlier challenges faced in his promotion journey, has being unwaveringly dedicated, affirming the belief that “delay is not denial.”

He also described him as one of the few highly experienced, dynamic and versatile administration officers who made significant and remarkable contributions to the attainment of NAF operational objectives.

Speaking on the other three officers, the Chief of the Air Staff said they were responsible for fostering unity and mutual respect across different faiths within and outside the Service, and their commitment to the emotional and spiritual well-being of NAF personnel was acknowledged as a cornerstone of NAF’s moral strength.

“As you embark on this new chapter of your lives, know that your legacies will endure. The lives you have touched and the positive impacts you have made will continue to resonate within our Air Force family,” he said.

The CAS further commended the spouses, families and friends for their invaluable support and urged them to remember that their sacrifices have been recognised and their contributions deeply cherished, even as they transition into retirement.

Earlier in his welcome address, Chief of Administration (COA), Air Vice Marshal Idi Sani noted that the four officers have undergone thorough and rigorous scrutiny and have been found worthy both in character and professionalism to have been promoted by the Air Force Council to substantive Air Commodores.

He disclosed that the promoted officers’ dedication and contributions to the NAF and the nation were highlighted as key factors in their advancement, just as he added that their promotion also reflects the NAF’s commitment to recognising and rewarding excellence.
