Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has expressed optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will assent to the North West Development Commission (NWDC) Bill, which aims to address the challenges facing the geopolitical zone.

Already, the National Assembly is set to transmit the bill to President Tinubu for his assent.

Barau said the bill he sponsored is ready for transmission to the presidency for assent, as both chambers of the National Assembly have passed it.

In a statement by his media aide, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau said that the passage of the bill by the parliament aligns with Tinubu’s commitment to transform the country and return it to the path of progress and prosperity.

The establishment of the North West Development Commission (NWDC) aims to address the challenges facing the seven states in the geopolitical zone (Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto, and Zamfara) and the country as a whole.

Describing the North West as the country‘s food basket, Senator Barau highlighted that the commission will work towards the restoration of infrastructure destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents and bandits in the region.

Barau expressed his appreciation to the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and his esteemed colleagues at both chambers for supporting the bill’s passage.

The lawmaker emphasised the importance of the commission in addressing challenges in the region and the entire country.

He expressed his optimism that the bill will be transmitted to Tinubu soon for assent, expressing confidence in the president’s commitment to the country’s transformation as outlined in the Renewed Hope Agenda.
