Following President Bola Tinubu’s creation of the Livestock Development Ministry, the former official photographer to the president, Mr Stephen Adedayo, has expressed optimism over the new ministry’s capability to reverse the entrenched crisis between farmers and herders in the country.
The ace photographer, who stated this at a public forum yesterday in Lagos, said the president’s creation of the ministry shows their tactfulness in handling vexed national issues.
According to him, another area the president has demonstrated understanding of the nation’s problem is the cancellation of tariffs on major foodstuffs, saying the policy will ameliorate current hardship and food price hike in the country.
The Ekiti State-born ace photographer said, “These developments are just the beginning of a series of positive changes that will impact the country. They are ‘jokers’ that will bring immense benefits to Nigeria.”
He outlined the potential benefits of the policies to including “boosting agricultural production and exports, generating significant revenue for the country; Creating jobs and stimulating economic growth in the livestock and food processing sectors; Reducing food prices and increasing access to affordable nutrition for Nigerian citizens.’’
Adedayo said the policy will help to attract foreign direct investment in the agricultural sector and further strengthen the economy.
He added that the various policies enunciated by the president are geared towards enhancing the nation’s food security and reducing reliance on importation.
He urged Nigerians to be optimistic and join hands with the present administration to salvage the country from an economic downturn, adding that the people would soon reap the benefits of the policies.
