Foundation, USAID Empowers Female Youths With Tech Skills

Khalil Suleiman Halilu (KSH) foundation in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has trained young females in technological skills and donated laptops to them to thrive towards self-reliance in the technologically driven world.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the second edition of EveryGirl 2.0 (Girl Connect) fellows programme in Abuja, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Khalil Halilu said the initiative was aimed at stimulating girls’ early engagement with technology.

Halilu who is the founder of KSH and initiator of EveryGirl 2.0, said the programme intended to empower young women between the ages of 14 to 21 in underserved communities to become internet savvy through education on the utilisation of the Internet for continued education, livelihood opportunities, and personal development.

He said: “The whole idea of the programme is to give young people mentorship support, tools and gadget, and a little bit of capital, to run one or two small businesses, and it doesn’t matter if they fail.

“We want to educate ,mentor and support young women by equipping them with the tools to leverage on the Internet for educational pursuits, career prospects, and personal growth.This year, EveryGirl witnessed the active participation of 300 young women from all six geopolitical zones of the country.

 

“Participants benefited from in-depth training on subjects such as Introduction to Internet Technology, Internet Communication Tools, Cybersecurity Awareness. Web Browsing and Social Media Skills, Digital Presence Management, Digital Marketing, Internet-related Careers, and Online Safety.”

In a remark, Fatima Sanusi, a participant from Kano, expressed her appreciation for the training stating that she will train others upon her return to her state.

Another participant, Eze Favour from Ebonyi who appreciated the organisation said she has started replicating the training to other girls virtually to enhance technological advancement in her State.
