A Non-Governmental Organisation, International Organisation for Peace Building and Social Justice (PSJ), Nigeria has attributed the collapse of the building belonging to Saints Academy Secondary School in Jos to the negligence of the proprietor and the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) of the School.

PSJ in a statement issued in Jos by the programmes officer, Sam Odeh, said the critical stakeholders ignored warning signs which led to the loss of over 22 children.

“It is disheartening to learn that this incident could have been avoided. The proprietors of the school ignored the clear signs of structural compromise, and there was a collective failure by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the development control agency to take appropriate action,” the group said.

Ode called for collaborative efforts from all stakeholders to ensure that schools are safe for learning and free from such mishaps in the future.

PSJ also blamed the regulatory agencies for not doing enough in their oversight function to prevent the incident.
