The representative of Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam federal constituency of Plateau State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, has reportedly gifted his daughter a brand new Lexus RX crossover SUV.

The gift was to celebrate her graduation from Lead British International School, Abuja, and her impressive performance in the recent Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).

The recipient, Aisha Gagdi, graduated on Saturday, and the celebratory gift was shared on Facebook by Saminu Maigoro, who posted pictures of the teenager with her father and the luxury vehicle.

Maigoro congratulated Aisha in his post, stating, “Congratulations, Aisha Yusuf Gagdi, on your graduation from Lead British International School Abuja. May it be the beginning of a wonderful journey of life. To celebrate her graduation and great performance in JAMB, her father surprised her with a gift of a car.”

The post elicited mixed reactions from netizens. Some social media users extended their congratulations to Aisha, while others criticised the lawmaker for being insensitive to Nigeria’s current economic situation.

One user, Kimkigo Kimkigo, offered encouragement: “Congratulations and best wishes, dear sister, may this car gift at this early stage serve as an encouragement and not a privilege to divide from the journey to stardom as recorded in your academic performances so far.”

However, Kamardeen Ibrahim Umar expressed frustration, highlighting the disparity between politicians and ordinary Nigerians: “Congratulations to her, but how can we progress as a country like this where an intelligent son of a common Nigerian is struggling to pay for his Jamb, Waec, or Neco, if he is lucky enough and managed to pay for the exams and successfully passed, he cannot afford for the hiked university tuitions. And on the other hand, the politicians that the common people voted into power are busy syphoning, stealing, and sharing our national resources for them to enjoy and spoil their families with. Let’s #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria.”

Amar Ibrahim also voiced his discontent: “See hungry poor people congratulating their looters. How many of you can afford the type of school she attended? Nigerians are not serious! We are the cause of our problems.”

Efforts to obtain a response from Hon. Gagdi were unsuccessful as he did not reply to SMS or WhatsApp messages seeking his comment.
