The Action Alliance (AA) has alerted the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun of an alleged plan by some expelled members of the party to attack the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, on Monday.

The party, in the statement signed by its National Secretary, James Vernimbe, said the conspirators planned to disguise as peaceful protesters over the commission’s compliance with an Appeal Court’s judgment recognising Chief Kenneth Udeze as the authentic national chairman of the party by INEC.

The statement dated July 21, 2024, however disassociated the party from the planned protest, which he said was intended to cause a breach of public peace.

AA said, “The group, in their renewed desperate bid to blackmail the INEC Chairman, is now asking the Commission to upload their faceless exco on the official website of INEC as AA leadership.

“We therefore urge the Inspector General of Police to immediately cause the arrest and prosecution of the protesters to avert a possible anarchy on Monday.

“We write to draw the attention of your office to a planned illegal protest against the INEC Chairman and the Commission purportedly by the Action Alliance, asking the commission to upload their names on its official website as national executives of Action Alliance (AA).

“The authentic and court-affirmed National Executives Committee (NEC) and National Think Tank Committee (NTTC) of Action Alliance (AA), led by Kenneth Udeze, distance Action Alliance from the planned illegal protest and gathering against the INEC chairman and the commission,” the statement added.

The party called on other security agencies in Abuja to tame the shenanigans from those it described as hoodlums, anti-government, and anti-democratic forces.

It further described the planned protest against the commission as the last kick of a dying horse from a group that has decided to resort to self-help over an appeal already before the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
