Emir of Katsina, Dr Abdulmuminu Kabir-Usman, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for awarding contract for the rehabilitation of 147-kilometre Katsina-Dutsinma-Kankara-Marabar Kankara Road in Katsina State.

The Federal Ministry of Works had on April 4, 2024, awarded a contract for the rehabilitation of the road after over 27 years without major repair works on it, to an indigenous firm, Vipan Global Resources Limited.

Speaking when he received the officials of the contracting firm in his palace, the Katsina monarch said that for awarding the contract, President Tinubu has demonstrated that he is a leader with listening ears.

He urged the company to ensure speedy completion of the project within specifications.

“l spoke at different fora on the need for reconstruction of the Mararaban Kankara-Katsina road given its economic importance, but our request was turned down. It is an important road to us because it eases the movement of goods from Katsina to other states,” the Emir said.

For his part, the Managing Director of the Vipan Global Resources Limited, Mr Doumit Ters, said the firm has commenced work on the road project even without the payment of mobilisation fee.

Ters assured that the project would be completed within the 24-month timeframe given to the company by the Federal Government, adding that about 1,000 indigenes of the state have been engaged in the construction work.

He, however, assured of the company’s readiness to execute quality work that will stand the test of time in line with the contractual terms.
