Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Wannune in Benue State, Dr. Tyover Dajoh, has said the major problem facing the institution is shortage of manpower and hostel accommodation for students to enhance effective monitoring.

The rector who disclosed this during the inaugural meeting of the governing council at the polytechnic said on assumption of the office as the acting rector he started with 260 students in two departments but now they have over 700 students in eight departments.

According to him, to ensure that the institution competes favourably with others in the global markets, they have embarked on the training and retraining of their teachers through the help of TETFund. He said the institution’s problem is manpower and hostel accommodation for the students to enable the school management to monitor the students well.

Earlier, the chairman of the council, Michael Msuaan, explained that the primary objective of the Governing Council is to ensure that the Federal Polytechnic remains a beacon of academic excellence and a hub for technical and vocational education.

He urged them to use their collective wisdom, experience, and dedication as a driving force behind their efforts to elevate the institution to new heights.

He promised growth, innovation, and excellence. “As a pioneer member of council representing the North Central Zone on the governing council of this institution in the previous administration, I am not unaware of the noble growth and challenges of this Federal Polytechnic,” he said.

Msuaan also expressed gratitude to each member of the board for accepting the call to serve, saying, their presence is a testament to their commitment to education and to the advancement of the polytechnic.

“As we gather here today, I am reminded of the significant role that each one of us will play in shaping the future of the polytechnic. Our collective wisdom, experience, and dedication will be the driving force behind our efforts to elevate this institution to new heights,” he said.
