A former senator representing Taraba South, Danlami Ikenya has told the state governors to ensure equal distribution of trucks load of palliatives delivered to them by the Federal Government to avoid looting during the August 1st planned nationwide protest.

Ikenya also called on the governors to imbibe the spirit of President Bola Tinubu by ensuring that the palliatives is channeled to those who need the items rather than holding them in warehouses for personal gains.

The former lawmaker who spoke to LEADERSHIP on the planned protest also advised that the protest by the Nigerian youths should be avoided to prevent plunging the nation into crisis.

He noted that distributing the items to the needy ahead of the August 1st planned protest would discourage most youths from storming the streets for protest, stating that most people are prepared just to loot such warehouses eves he agreed that there is acute hunger in the country.

“Let the governors ensure that the items sent to them from the Federal Government are equally distributed to the needy; that can discourage many youths from going to the streets that very day.

“Many youths are targeting to attack the warehouses where the palliatives are being kept. If by mistake the items are not distributed, it’s obvious that the event of ENDSARS would repeat itself.

“The President has already ensured that there is flow of food across the nation and the governors have no reason to withhold those items. The governors should be able to complement the efforts of Mr. President by making the food items available to the needy,” the former lawmaker said.

However, when contacted, the Taraba State Commissioner for Special Duties and Social Development, Hon. Saviour Noku, told our correspondent that the palliatives sent from the federal government to the state has not been delivered.
