During the distribution, the club president, Rotarian Obioha Eleninoke, encouraged the women to prioritize their health and heed nurses’ advice.

Eleninoke emphasized that this initiative aligns with one of the seven focus areas of Rotary International, which aims to support mothers and children in their crucial roles of bringing life into the world.

He stated, “We are holding a health symposium here in Gwarinpa for pregnant and nursing mothers, focusing on antenatal and postnatal healthcare. Our aim is to prevent dangerous health conditions under this month’s theme: maternal and child health. Rotary has seven areas of focus, one of which is maternal and child health.”

He continued, “We typically conduct related activities at the start of the Rotary year in July. In line with this, we have come to our adopted community, Gwarinpa Village, for this health symposium. We are discussing the prevention of dangerous health issues and supporting pregnant women and nursing mothers with kits to alleviate their challenges. This is an annual program for us.”

He added that many of their projects are based in this community. “In addition to maternal and child health, we have other programs, such as women’s empowerment. We train women and provide them with equipment to support their livelihood and well-being. We continually run various programs to support these women, especially during these challenging economic times, extending our efforts to benefit the entire community,” he said.

Rotarian Dr. Njideka Kanu advised women to prioritize their health during pregnancy.

She emphasized the importance of seeking medical help, registering for antenatal care to ensure regular check-ups, and maintaining adequate nutrition.

She also urged women to ensure they deliver with the assistance of skilled birth attendants.

A beneficiary, Margaret Joseph, expressed her happiness that the medical support provided by the Rotary Club would significantly reduce costs for her and her husband. She thanked the club for its kind gesture.
