Senator Enoh remarked that both esteemed individuals are national icons whose passion for sports was infectious.

Senator Enoh stated thus, “the legacies of Chief Iwuanyanwu and Senator Ubah in sports development will forever be remembered. Their dedication to sports development and fostering a healthy sports environment has significantly contributed to the growth and success of Nigerian sports. We mourn their loss and celebrate their remarkable contributions.”

Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the president-general of the Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the age of 82 after a brief illness. Chief Iwuanyanwu was the founder of Iwuanyanwu Nationale Football Club, now known as Heartland Football Club, which has won several local and international championships. The late 1980s marked the club’s most successful period, winning four consecutive championships from 1987 to 1990. During this time, the club featured several Nigerian national team players, such as Thompson Oliha, Benedict Iroha, and Uche Okechukwu.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, a Nigerian politician, entrepreneur, and businessman, served as the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District until his death on July 27, 2024, in London. He was the sponsor and proprietor of FC Ifeanyi Ubah, the 2016 Federations Cup champions. His investment in sports was commendable and left a lasting impact on the Nigerian sports landscape.

Highlighting their broader impact, Senator Enoh added, “Chief Iwuanyanwu and Senator Ubah were not just sports enthusiasts; they were visionaries who understood the power of sports in nation-building. Their efforts went beyond the football field; they were instrumental in uniting communities, creating opportunities for youth, and promoting Nigeria on the international stage. Their contributions have laid a foundation for future generations to build upon.”

“Their commitment to excellence and passion for Nigerian sports have inspired countless athletes and sports administrators,” continued Senator Enoh. “They have shown us the true meaning of dedication and patriotism. As we reflect on their lives, let us strive to uphold the values they cherished and continue to work towards making Nigeria a dominant force in global sports.”

The entire sports community in Nigeria joins in mourning these great leaders, whose efforts have inspired many and uplifted the nation’s sporting achievements. Their legacies will live on, serving as a beacon of hope and a source of inspiration for all.
